Mga Batang Riles Kapuso Profiles Digital Cover

Every Kapuso Profile starts with the same question: who is this person when the cameras aren't rolling? For the cast of Mga Batang Riles (Miguel Tanfelix, Kokoy de Santos, Raheel Bhyria, Bruce Roeland, and Antonio Vinzon), that question came with a built in tension. How do you photograph five actors playing hardened, street worn characters while still letting them read as people, not just a poster for the show.

The show's world called for real edge: gritty, unpolished, rooted in street culture rather than studio polish. The visual language needed to feel connected to Mga Batang Riles without becoming a promotional extension of it. Working with the writer, that tension turned into the concept itself. Yin and yang. The good and the bad. One shoot pulling in two directions at once.

That idea shaped every part of the shoot. Each cast member's segment plays out through two contrasting header images, one lit clean and natural, the other drenched in neon, setting up the good versus bad duality the interviews go on to unpack.

The shoot itself came with a hard constraint too: one day, no room for reshoots. I directed styling, lighting, and composition across all five cast members within that window, moving through 3 locations to get enough variety for two layouts per subject without the coverage feeling repetitive.

Copy Integration

The written piece, built around each cast member's admission of their "bad" side, came from our writer on the editorial team. Rather than pairing text and image literally, the copy runs as its own editorial thread while the light and neon header pairing carries the yin-yang concept visually. My job was building the transitions so each segment reads as a clean beat: image, story, image again. The contrast between the two header treatments does the talking, so the duality never has to be spelled out.

Build

I built the long form layout in Webflow around five parallel segments, one per cast member, each opening on the light and neon header pair before moving into their individual story and photo set, then closing with a full group treatment that ties all five back together. Given the one day shoot, the layout had to feel expansive despite a tighter image set than usual. The light and neon contrast became a repeatable device that added rhythm across the piece without needing more raw coverage than we had time to shoot.
